A small get-together followed by a farewell luncheon was organized by the faculty members and students of the Department of Botany on the eve of the retirement of Mr. Diganta Buragohain, Laboratory Assistant (Lab Bearer). Mr. Buragohain rendered his valuable service to the Department for nearly 30 years with utmost dedication and sincerity.
The meeting was
presided over by Dr. Durga Prasad Gogoi, Principal, Namrup College. Dr.
Utpal Tamuly, Vice Principal, Namrup College, also attended the programme.
Mr. Buragohain
joined Namrup College in 1996, initially working in a non-sanctioned post
for almost 12 years. In 2008, he was appointed as a permanent employee of
the College. Since then, he had been serving with complete commitment as a
Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Botany until his retirement in August
2025.
During his long
years of service, he contributed significantly not only to the Botany
Department but also to the overall development of the College. His simplicity,
kind nature, and cooperative attitude made everyone feel comfortable working
with him. He was especially admired by the students, who fondly called
him “Khura” (uncle), for his friendly and approachable behaviour.
To express sincere gratitude for his lifelong service and to convey best wishes for his retired life, the faculty members, laboratory assistants, and students organized a farewell gathering on 28th August 2025 at the Department of Botany.
The farewell programme was hosted by Mr. Ashok Urang, a B.Sc.
3rd Semester, Botany Major student.
On this occasion:
- The Principal delivered a heartfelt speech appreciating Mr. Buragohain’s long-term dedicated service to the College.
- The Vice Principal recalled his humble nature and selfless contribution.
- Dr. Jayanta Sonowal, Head of the Department of Botany, highlighted his devotion both to the Department and to various activities of the College.
- Dr. Urmika Phangchopi and Ms. Kakoli Baruah, Assistant Professors of the Botany Department, also spoke, emphasizing his dedication and cordial nature.
- Students shared their experiences and expressed their affection for Mr. Buragohain, unanimously praising his childlike simplicity, generosity, and friendly nature.
The programme
concluded with an outpouring of respect and gratitude for Mr. Buragohain’s
remarkable service. The gathering came to a close successfully at around 12:30
PM.
